They knocked on the door in the first. They knocked again in the second.

In the third, they decided what the heck, why not just bang the door down.

The Beaver Dam American Legion Post 146 varsity baseball team scored a run in the opening frame, two in the next frame, and five in the frame after that, mounting an eight-run lead that would be plenty big enough to pave the way for an 8-4 win over Jefferson Post 164 on Saturday afternoon in an East Central American Legion Conference game played at home.

Bayne Johnson’s two-out RBI double in the first sparked the fire, and Austin Franke’s two-run, two-out single in the second stoked it.

An RBI walk by Dillon Livingston followed by a two-run single by Mitch Graff and a two-run double by Franke turned the fire into a blazing inferno in the third. Johnson, Luke Livingston and Charlie Storhoff did the rest on the mound, holding Jefferson scoreless until Post 164 made things look closer than they were by striking for four in the seventh.

BD was slated to play Watertown later Saturday, but that game was canceled because of severe weather.

Next up for BD, which is now 13-4 on the summer, is its opener at the AA regional tournament on Wednesday in Brownsville.
