FORT ATKINSON – Sometimes, all it takes is one crooked number.

The Fort Atkinson Post 166 varsity baseball team hung a three-spot on Beaver Dam Post 146 in the second inning — and that was enough as Post 166 made it hold up for a 3-1 victory Wednesday night in an East Central American Legion Conference Central Division game.

With the loss, BD drops to 7-3 on the summer and 4-1 in ECAL Central Division action. Meantime, Fort is only a game back in the Central Division standings at 2-1.

Connor O’Brien’s RBI fielder’s choice, Jacob Kostroski’s RBI single, and Braeden Wixom’s RBI double — the last two RBIs coming with two outs — were the blows dealt by Fort in the second.

Dillon Livingston reached on an error to lead off the fifth and then later scored on an error to cut BD’s deficit to 3-1, but Post 146 stranded runners at first and third in the sixth and came up empty with the tying run at the plate in the seventh. Next up are a pair of games today at Roosevelt Park in Janesville, first against Oconomowoc at 9 a.m. and then against Janesville at 2 p.m.
