WAUPUN — They planted their stake in the ground early, and they spent the rest of the game protecting their turf.

The Waupun American Legion Post 210 varsity baseball team scored four runs in the first inning and that was enough as it held off Ripon to claim a 4-3 win Thursday night in an East Central American Legion Conference game played at Schlieve Field.

Reece Homan grounded into an RBI fielder’s choice, Bryce Burmania and Caden Bronkhorst notched back-to-back RBI singles, and Burmania scored on a wild pitch to account for the four runs in the first.

And Brenden Bille was dominant over the next seven innings, scattering four hits and four runs while striking out 12 to earn the win.

The only damage against him came in the fourth, when Andrew Radloff drew an RBI walk and Max Huseboe blasted a two-run double to cut Ripon’s deficit to 4-3.

Waupun has now won six straight games — having outscored opponents 53-16 in that span — and is 14-2 on the summer heading into next Wednesday’s regional opener at home against Horicon.
