FOND DU LAC — Things went so well for Mayville’s prep girls cross country team Thursday at the Flyway Conference meet, the finishes posted by honorable mention all-conference performers Mallory Firari and Tori Champ didn’t count toward the team score.
Mayville’s top five runners all finished in the top 20, carrying the Cardinals to the conference championship with a score of 60 points — five clear of runner-up Omro (65).
Cecily Hurtienne led the way by taking fifth in the 5,000-meter race with a time of 21 minutes, 26.84 seconds, while Amber Schraufnagel followed close behind in eighth with a time of 21:46.72, allowing both to claim first-team all-conference honors.
Catlyn Mahony (11th, 22:07.60) and Kennah Konrad (16th, 22:59.64) were second team all-conference, and Katelyn Huizenga (20th, 22:59.64) joined Firari and Champ as honorable mention.
The Cardinals boys took fourth and were led by Isaac Wolf’s fifth-place finish in the boys 5K with a time of 17:57.80, good enough for first team all-conference.
Kaleb Krueger (16th, 18:57.20) made second team, and Emmit Hurtienne (20th, 19:07.90) received honorable mention.
