WAUPUN – It was a fine final day of January for Waupun’s prep gymnastics team, which posted a season-best score in a 135.675-130.2 loss to Little Ten Conference foe West Bend East on Tuesday night at Rock River Intermediate School.

The good showing for the Lady Warriors came on parents and senior night, when seniors Chloe Harmsen, Sara Kroeze, and Megan Hansen were all recognized during the last home meet of their careers.

Hansen had a memorable last meet at Rock River, too – she took second in the all-around with a personal-best score of 33.4, a little more than a point behind all-around winner Zoey Roberts of East (34.65). Hansen’s most notable individual event was the uneven bars, with a season-best score of 8.05 to take fifth.

Harmsen returned from a back injury and took fifth in the balance beam with (5.9).

Kroeze, who is nursing a knee injury as she works toward being 100 percent for the conference meet and sectional meet, took fifth in the beam (8.4) for her best finish of the night. best finish was fifth in the beam (8.4).

“This is always an emotional night for everyone, and it was also a lot of fun,” Lady Warriors’ co-head coach Emily Engelhardt said via email. “We knew WBE was going to be a tough team to beat, so we just focused on ourselves and our performances, and that was key to us finally breaking 130.

“We know the girls can perform even better, but once again we're moving in the right direction.”
