WAUNAKEE — Clay Scheffler lit the lamp just 53 seconds into the game and Beaver Dam’s prep boys hockey team never looked back, scoring twice more in the first period en route to a 5-1 win over DeForest in a Badger North Conference on Friday night at the Ice Pond.

Sam VanderHoeven and Jay Kirschbaum each notched a goal and an assist and Blaiz Firari assisted a pair of scorers in addition to notching a first-period goal of his own, all helping the Golden Beavers improve to 4-2 overall and 2-0 in conference.

Next up for the Beavers is a game at La Crosse Aquines/Holmen today before Tuesday’s Badger North game at home vs. Reedsburg/Wisconsin Dells.
