BARABOO – All of them did well, but Liz Grennon did the best.
She was the only member of Beaver Dam’s prep girls swimming team to make the podium Friday at the Badger North Conference Championships held at Jack Young Middle School – although Golden Beavers’ head coach Jenna Wisdorf said the fact pretty much everyone on the team turned in personal bests meant “the meet was very successful.”
“There were just too many great races that I cannot possible name them all,” added Wisdorf, whose Golden Beavers took sixth as a team. “We are thrilled at our performance and growth this season.”
Grennon led the way, tying for fourth in the 100-yard butterfly while also taking 10th in the 100 backstroke.
Other standouts were: The 200 medley relay team of Kaylee Soto, Sydney Foote, Grennon, and Morgan McGauley (seventh), McGauley (seventh in the 100 freestyle), Foote (ninth in the 50 freestyle), and the 400 freestyle relay team of Soto, Foote, Grennon, and McGauley (10th).
Alexis Bakke and Katherine Panzer also raised eyebrows by both dropping 10 seconds off their PRs in the 500 freestyle while taking 12th and 13th, respectively.
Maddie Derrick took 14th in the 500 free to score points toward Beaver Dam’s overall team score.
-Alexis Bakke (JR) and Katherine Panzer(FR) both dropped 10+ seconds on their 500 free allowing them to score for the team. Bakke placed 12th, Panzer placed 13th and Maddie Derrick (although not a personal best) placed 14th also scoring points for the team.
Competing for Beaver Dam Saturday at a Division 1 sectional meet in Cedarburg will be: Grennon, Soto, Foote, McGauley, Bakke, Derrick, Alex Kraus, Camryn Gosdeck, McKenna Schwartz, and Alyssa Foote.
