MERRILL — As if it’s not cold enough here, Beaver Dam’s prep wrestling team went north for the Christmas break.

And while it wasn’t a roaring success for the Golden Beavers, they did acquit themselves well at the Northern Exposure tournament that Merrill High School played host to Thursday and Friday, finishing seventh in a 14-team field after going 3-4 in dual meets.

Beaver Dam defeated Menomonie (44-35), Rosholt (58-12) and Waukesha South (39-35), and lost to Bay Port (58-15), Two Rivers (57-16), Mineral Point (45-27) and Port Washington (41-32).

Beaver Dam individuals who finished with winning records at the tournament were Dietrich Jaeckel (6-1 at 113 and 120 pounds), Nathan Jansen (5-2 at 145), Matthew Piekarski (5-2 at heavyweight), Kolbe De Los Angeles (4-3 at 126), Dylan Surprise (4-3 at 132), Ian Wendt-Utrie (4-3 at 152) and Payton Gorr (4-3 at 195).

Next up for the Golden Beavers is a Badger North Conference match vs. Mount Horeb on Friday night at Beaver Dam Middle School.
