COLUMBUS — Johnny Depp may not put his head down to rest anywhere near Columbus Sunday, but plenty of his fans will.
The filming of Michael Mann's "Public Enemies" in downtown Columbus has raised interest in the Super 8 on the city's edge.
"We possibly could be filled up to capacity on Sunday night," general manager Matt Warmka said.
Sundays are usually a very slow night for the motel, but the proximity to the downtown area that will be used as a set, could change all that. The proximity — plus the fact that Super 8 is the only motel in Columbus — should fill the motel that sits off the Highway 73 exit of Highway 151.
"Sunday and Monday I noticed a lot more reservations coming in," Warmka said. "We're having a few people who will be bringing their cars from the 1929 era," Warmka said. "It's neat. It doesn't happen all the time, does it?"
Most of the people seem to be coming for one purpose.
"A lady called a little bit ago and wanted a motel room for her and her two daughters to watch the filming," Warmka said.
Warmka said he has not checked out the downtown yet, which is being transformed into a 1930s scene, but he probably will this weekend.
He does believe the excitement in the community will remain for awhile after Johnny Depp leaves the city.
"It'll keep up for a while, but of course slow down eventually," Warmka said.
