Electric vehicles ok to roll in West Baraboo

West Baraboo village residents may now operate neighborhood electric vehicles on village streets, and village streets only, after the village ordinance won approval from state transportation officials. During Thursday's Village Board meeting, the trustees reviewed a letter from the Wisconsin Department of Transportation. NEV advocate Trustee Elgin Bulin said the special electric cars are restricted from driving on major roads such as Highway 33/Linn Street and Highway 12/W. Pine Street. NEVs may only cross those roads on a few village streets that go directly across the major arteries. "You can only cross Highway 33 at Mulberry Street," he said. "You can cross Highway 12 at Berkely (Boulevard) and you can cross it at Tinkham Trail and Chestnut. That's it." The board did not need to take any official action on the NEVs Thursday evening.
