Marie E. Gray
Marie E. Gray, 85, of Baraboo passed Monday, Sept. 22, 2008, at Walnut Grove Assisted Living in Baraboo. Marie was born on Jan. 9, 1923 in Reading, Pa., the daughter of Harvey and Ida (Graeff) Hess. Marie was a veteran of the United States Navy serving during World War II. During her tour of duty, Marie met and married Rex Gray on Nov. 9, 1944 in Dodgeville. He preceded her in death on Nov. 30, 1994. Marie was a charter member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Baraboo, a member of the Royal Neighbors, and the American Legion Auxiliary. Survivors include three daughters, Anna (Mike) Miller of Ark., Roberta (John) Turnbow of Janesville, Marilyn Frame of La Crosse; seven grandchildren, Doug (Judy) Gurgel, Bobbie Lynn Gurgel, Quincy (Bill) Meseberg, Christy Hawkins, Tara Frame, Michael (Keri) Miller, and Tracy Frame; 11 great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-laws, Carol, Marilyn, and Jackie; and a special close friend, Lorraine Bates. In addition to her husband, Rex, she was preceded in death by her parents; two daughters, eight brothers, mother and father in-laws; and a sister-in-law. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 25, 2008, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Baraboo, with pastors Deb and Steve Ohrtman officiating. Visitation will be at the Rago-Baldwin Funeral Home on Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2008, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. and at the church on Thursday from 10 a.m. until time of service. Burial will take place in Walnut Hill Cemetery with military graveside honors provided by the Baraboo Veterans Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Marie's name may be made to St. Paul's Lutheran Church.
