Alvin Robert Thayer
REEDSBURG — Alvin Robert Thayer, age 90, of Reedsburg, died Monday, Oct. 26, 2009 at the Reedsburg Area Senior Life Center. He was born on Jan. 8, 1919 in Macklin, Saskatchewan, Canada, the son of Claude Fred and Ida (Zimmerman) Thayer. On June 11, 1941, he was united in marriage to Dorothy E. Greenwood at St. John Lutheran Church in Reedsburg. This marriage was blessed with two daughters. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He was the parts manager at Schulz Chevrolet in Reedsburg for over 36 years. He was a member of St. Peter’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Reedsburg, and a member of the Reedsburg VFW Post 1916. He loved his wife, and missed her greatly. He was also a loving father, and wrote that his girls were the mostly dearly loved in the world, and he loved them more than life itself. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, Dorothy on July 12, 1996. He is survived by his children, Marsha (Gary) Tourdot of Reedsburg, Anita Thayer of Sauk City; grandchildren, Jennifer (Brian) Baird of Middleton, Rachel (Eric) Scheunemann of Baraboo, and Robert (Amy) Tourdot of Mosinee; four great-grandchildren, Natilie, Meadow, Rayna and Alexander; sister, Adelaide Volz of Reedsburg; nieces; nephews; along with other relatives and friends. Funeral services for Alvin Robert Thayer will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 29, 2009 at St. Peter’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Reedsburg with the Rev. Kurt Klingbeil officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by Reedsburg VFW Post 1916. Friends may call on Wednesday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Farber Funeral Home in Reedsburg, and on Thursday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at the church. Memorials of remembrance may be made to the American Heart Association. The Farber Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements.
