Dorothy A. Mayer
Dorothy A. "Maca" (McGonigle) Mayer, age 80 of Baraboo, passed away early Friday morning, Nov. 6, 2009 at St. Clare Meadows Care Center. Dorothy, born on Aug. 17, 1929, was the third of four children born to Leo Patrick and Mary Hanora (McCormick) McGonigle. She was born in Wessington Springs, S.D. The family moved to Ableman, now Rock Springs, and later relocated to Baraboo. She married Albert W. Mayer of Baraboo on March 3, 1949 in Beloit. Together they had six children. Maca loved collecting Teddy bears and knick knacks, going out to eat and watching the Packers and the Cubs. She will always be remembered for her perfectly coordinated outfits and her spunky personality. She especially enjoyed spending time with her children and their families. They were her life and she had a special bond with each of them. Dorothy is survived by her children, Michael (Geri Breunig), Patty (Larry) Pawlak, Jerry, Teresa, Tina (Barry) Peters, Greg (Julie); her grandchildren, David (Andrea Berg) Pawlak, Krystal (Greg) Montgomery, Lacey (Josh) Van Fossen, Alex Mayer, Madeline Mayer and Jacob Mayer; her great-grandchildren, Rachel Pawlak, Paige Pawlak, Derek Pawlak, Peter Montgomery, John Montgomery, Natalie Van Fossen, Allie Van Fossen, Grace Van Fossen and Juliana Berg; her brother, Gene (Mickey) McGonigle; her former husband, Al Mayer; as well as several nieces, nephews and many friends. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Bob; sister, Mary; children, Bart and Mary; her special friend, Vince Miller; and great-grandson, Paul Montgomery. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 10, 2009 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with Father Larry Bakke officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday, Nov. 9, 2009 from
5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Redlin Funeral Home, 401 Madison Ave. in Baraboo and on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the time of services at
11 a.m. The family would like to express their sincerest appreciation to Dr. Munneke and the staff at St. Clare Hospital ICU and the staff at Birch Lane and St. Clare Meadows for their compassion and support. Maca was a loving and caring mother, grandmother and friend to many and touched the lives of all that knew her.
