Eagles Nest gives thanks for drive

The Eagles Nest Detachment of the Sauk County Marine Corps League would like to express our appreciation to everyone who supported our Rose Drive during the second and third weekends of September.

We would also like to request names and addresses of any area servicemen or women serving in Iraq or Afghanistan. We support these brave folks with packages of items they might not be able to obtain in the area of their service. A partial listing of the contents would include playing cards, sporting magazines, puzzle books, canned soup, peanut butter, lip balm, socks, hand warmers, writing materials, and other items. Our packages are the Postal Service Priority Mail Flat Rate Box.

You might forward names and addresses to: Eagles Nest Detachment, Marine Corps League, P.O. Box 174, Reedsburg, WI 53959.

Let’s avoid repeat of 1918 pandemic

I am on the Sauk County Public Health Board. For the last 10 years we have been short of vaccine for regular flu. Now, once again, we are not getting enough vaccine for H1N1 (swine) flu vaccinations and are in danger of a pandemic similar to the one in 1918.

I wrote by mail to the President and to Herb Kohl. I thought maybe Sen. Kohl would expedite the message to the President. All I got from Sen. Kohl’s office when I telephoned was a secretary who gave me a vociferous answer and was of little help. We need to avoid a repeat of 1918.
