BHS names new soccer program coach

By Pete Watson/News Republic

Sean Breitzman, a 25 year-old Appleton native with a strong background on the pitch, was recently named the new head coach of the Baraboo Thunderbirds girls and boys soccer teams.

Breitzman, a four-year player at Appleton East High School before moving on to Division III Lawrence University in Appleton, replaces Greg Riddell, who resigned after the 2009 academic year.

Following a two-year stint as assistant boys varsity coach at his prep alma mater, where he was a social studies teacher, Breitzman is coming off of one season coaching the freshman girls team at Kimberly High School.

"This is my first head coaching job, so I’m excited to join the program and develop it into a playoff contender," Breitzman said. "I was hoping to get my own program down the road eventually, I just didn’t expect it this soon. I’m very excited to begin working with both the girls and boys programs."

Baraboo’s new lead man will meet with players next week to introduce himself, and pass along his coaching philosophy.

"If players earn their spot on the practice pitch, they are going to play," Breitzman said. "It’s not just about winning.

"I want to see this program developed at all levels."
