Two goals enough for T-Birds

News Republic Sports

REEDSBURG — Behind goals from seniors Tannor Henke and Emmanuel Perez, the No.-8 seeded Baraboo Thunderbirds boys soccer team got past the ninth-seeded Reedsburg Beavers 2-0, Tuesday, in the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association Division I regional semifinal.

With the win, Baraboo (15-6-2) advances to Thursday’s regional final against the top-seeded Madison West Regents (15-5-1), who defeated Holmen in their semifinal match, 4-0.

"Everything came together real well against Reedsburg, and we’re pretty confident heading into Thursday," said BHS coach Sean Breitzman.

On Tuesday, Baraboo’s defense recorded its seventh shutout of the season, and Breitzman predicts defensive play will be the difference against Madison West.

"We figure it to be a defensive battle, and whichever team makes a mistake first will be at a disadvantage," Breitzman said. "We want to have the right mental and physical attitude going into the game."

Henke, who tallied his second goal of the year, got BHS on the board with 32 minutes remaining in the first half.

In the second half, it was Henke recording the helper as Perez put the T-Birds ahead by two scores with a goal near the 49-minute mark.
