MADISON —The 2009 season came to an end on Thursday for the Baraboo Thunderbirds boys soccer team, as the Madison West Regents triumphed 4-1 in the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association Division I regional final at Warner Park.

Baraboo bolted out to a 1-0 edge 12 minutes into the contest on an Emmanuel Perez to Josh Sarby connection.

But Madison tallied the equalizer on a penalty kick four minutes later and never looked back.

The No.-1 seeded Regents tacked on one more score in the first half, before pulling away from ninth-seeded Baraboo with two scores early in the second en route to finishing with 18 shots on goal.

Madison advances to sectional play and will face Madison Memorial next Thursday.

The Thunderbirds finish the year with a third-place medal in the Badger North Conference and tallied an overall record of 15-7-2.

The squad waves goodbye to six seniors: Tony Brandt, Nick Thomas, Allen Parker, Sarby, Henke and Perez.
