Spirits hoops falls to 0-5

News Republic Sports

The UW-Baraboo/Sauk County Fighting Spirits hosted UW-Washington County on Monday in a non-conference matchup and was tripped up, 62-47.

UW-Washington was able to obtain an 18-point halftime lead, with 12 of those points coming from behind the three-point line.

The Fighting Spirits chipped away in the second half and outscored the visitors 27-24, but the early hole was too much to overcome.

Despite the loss, UW-B/SC coach Jim Weiland likes the progress his squad has made through five games.

"We are improving." Weiland said. "Our defensive boards are much better than last year, we are playing better as a team, and our conditioning is coming around."

The Fighting Spirits will head to UW-Marathon on Wednesday for a conference game at 7 p.m.
