The Columbus Art Association sponsored a meeting to determine the amount of interest in forming a little theatre group in Columbus. Eighteen people attended the first meeting but additional persons expressed an interest swelling the actual count to near 50.
Sandy Wedel, Columbus High School senior, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Anthony Wedel, won the Columbia County American Legion Oratorical Contest. Wedel was awarded a $25 U.S. Savings Bond for taking first place.

The Columbus Public Library Board held a special meeting to discuss the steps being taken to end the relationship that has lasted for 14 years with the Columbus Preschool program meeting in the library basement. The Library Board notified the preschool that the basement would not be available beyond the 1987-88 school year because the library would need the space for children’s room and additional shelving.

Columbus Police are searching for a suspect in an armed robbery of the Costal Mart convenience store in Columbus. A man displaying a black semi-automatic handgun entered the store at 2 a.m. and demanded money. An armed robbery is very rare in Columbus according to Police Chief Anthony Brus.
The state of Wisconsin enacted a new School Choice Program for the next school year. Columbus School District has had seven requests from students to attend Columbus and Fall River has ten requests to attend its school.
