Baraboo 55, Monticello 32
Baraboo notched its most lopsided win of the season on Thursday, rolling to a 55-32 non-conference win over Monticello in Cambridge.
The Thunderbirds (2-8) set the tone early, opening up a 31-17 halftime lead and keeping the Ponies (2-9) at bay throughout the second half.
Lexy Johnson made three 3-pointers on the way to scoring 11 first-half points and getting the T-Birds off to the fast start.
Baraboo ended a two-game losing streak, as its only other win this season was a 48-47 Badger North Conference win over Mount Horeb at home on Dec. 9.
Monticello lost its fifth straight game after opening the day with a 55-31 setback to Cambridge. The Ponies are averaging 60.0 points per game in their two wins and scoring just 32.3 points per game in their nine losses.
The T-Birds, who entered the day averaging 48.7 points per game, had their second-highest scoring game of the season, trailing only the 60 points they scored in a 91-60 home loss to Marshall on Nov. 25. Baraboo has reached the 50-point mark in three straight games for the first time this season.
Johnson and Haley Hannagan each scored a game-high 13 points. Grace Stuckey added nine points for the T-Birds, while Lia Kieck finished with eight points.
Hannah Zanow and Claire Klossner each scored eight points to lead Monticello.
Cambridge 60, Baraboo 41
Baraboo ran into a tough Cambridge team in the nightcap.
The Blue Jays took a 35-27 lead into halftime before pulling away and handing the T-Birds a 60-41 loss to cap off the two-game tournament.
Cambridge, which opened the day with a 55-31 win over Monticello, won its seventh straight game to improve to 10-1 on the season while dropping Baraboo to 2-9.
Kieck made seven free throws en route to scoring a team-high 13 points. The junior forward was the lone T-Bird to score in double figures, as Johnson and Hannagan each added nine points.
Four Blue Jays scored in double figures, led by a 14-point effort from Joriann Clary.
The T-Birds will host a non-conference game against Wisconsin Dells on Tuesday.
