Red Ridge Ranch on Highway 82 east of Mauston will host the inaugural "Buck-Off Mauston" mechanical bull-riding competition and children's mutton-busting as part of the Annual Country Pumpkin Bash starting at 1 p.m. Riders may compete in three different contests. The Novice Buck-Off costs $5 to enter and has three age divisions. The Pro Buck-Off costs $20 to enter with a $200 prize and a 100 percent payback. The Team Buck-Off costs $15 per team of three people with 100 percent of the money collected going to the winning team's charity. The winning team will also receive a travelling trophy. The Mauston Room Tax Committee will host a pie-baking contest at the Mauston Pumpkin Bash from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Veteran's Memorial Park/Juneau County Fairgrounds on Division Street in Mauston. Red Ridge Ranch off of Highway 82 east of Mauston will host "Bake Off Mauston", a cookie and pie-baking contest, as part of the Annual Country Pumpkin bash at 11 a.m. Three categories each for pies and cookies will be judged in both an open and junior division, with a $15 top prize and $5 second prize going to winners in each category of both divisions. All entry items will be donated to a Carl W. Nelson bake sale following the judging. Registration must be turned in at Castle Rock Realty on State Street in downtown Mauston or sent to Sharon Halverson at W8429 Highway C, New Lisbon, 53950 by Wednesday, Oct. 21. Fuel assistance applications will be collected at Necedah Village Hall at 101 Center St. from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Applicants must bring Social Security numbers for everyone in household, verification of previous three months gross income and fuel and electric costs for Sept. 1 through Aug. 31. The second annual chili cook-off to benefit the Mauston food pantry will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. (or until the chili is gone). One cup of chili will be $1 at the Mauston offices of Royal Bank, Bank of Mauston, Oakdale Credit Union and M&I Bank. For more information, call (608) 847-4500.

The city of Elroy will host a Haunted House at Schultz Park, site of the Elroy Fair, from 6 to 10 p.m both nights for $5 per person. All proceeds will benefit the Elroy Fair. For more information, call (608) 542-0258.
