Semi crash closes grocery

Kenneth Broomell, a truck driver from Minocqua, crashed his semi into Barnes Family Foods in New Lisbon early morning Saturday. According to the police report, Broomell stated he drank two pints of vodka in the hours leading up to the crash and does not remember driving from Madison to New Lisbon.

Paul Barnes, owner and operator of Barnes Family Foods, could not have possibly prepared for the call he received early Saturday morning.
"I'm still numb," he said. "It's going to be a rough road, but we're plowing through it."
Sometime after midnight Oct. 31, Kenneth Broomell crashed his semi-truck into the New Lisbon grocery store, destroying a wall and thousands of dollars in merchandise and equipment and knocking the power out for part of the east side of the city.
According to New Lisbon Police Department Officer Kevin Weinshrott, Broomell admitted to drinking two pints of vodka in the hours leading up to the crash.
