Lowell Lee "Jack" Crawford

Lowell Lee "Jack" Crawford, 78, of Janesville, died Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2008, at home. Jack was born in Groten, S.D. on July 2, 1930, the son of Frank and Jennie (Carpenter) Crawford.

He married Joan Therese Wacholtz on July 3, 1952, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Reedsburg. Jack was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and served his country in the United States Air Force.

He was a long-time truck driver for Nuendorf Trucking Company and founded Crawford Packaging Company. Jack also started Center Avenue Self-Serve Station and Café and for many years was an independent truck driver.

Survivors include his wife, Joan; son, Evan Crawford of San Diego, Calif.; daughters, Denise Marie (Mauro) Arrigo, of Burgamo, Italy and Kathryn Lynn (Sam, Jr.) Maglio of Mequon; grandchildren, Sam Maglio, a student at NYU, New York City, N.Y., Nino Maglio, Mequon, Mark Maglio, a student at Boston College, Boston, Mass., Michelle Maglio, a student at Boston College, Boston, Mass., Paul Maglio, Mequon; brother, LeRoy Crawford of Tomah; and sister, Darlene (Bill) Bires of Camp Douglas.

Jack was predeceased by his parents; son, Mark; grandson, Matteo Arrigo; brother, Clarence; and sister, Minnie Lu Johnson.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2008, at 10 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, with Father James Kuhn presiding. Burial took place at Calvary Cemetery in Reedsburg.

Visitation was held on Monday, Nov. 24, 2008, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Henke-Clarson Funeral Home, Janesville and also on Tuesday at the church for one hour prior to the funeral.
