The New Lisbon Rockets volleyball team started this week looking up at three teams in the Scenic Bluffs Conference (SBC) race.

Fortunately for the Rockets, they still had matches against those three teams, and with a little help they had a chance to at least win a share of the SBC title.

On Tuesday, the Rockets hosted the Bangor Cardinals, who were tied with Hillsboro for second place in the SBC, and who beat New Lisbon 3-0 on Sept. 30.

The Lady Rockets got off to a slow start against the visiting Cardinals, falling behind 11-2 in game one. New Lisbon seemed out of sync as Bangor won 25-11.

New Lisbon was able to take an early lead in game two, 8-4. Following a Cardinals' timeout New Lisbon increased their lead to 14-6.

The Rockets couldn't take advantage of the big lead and Bangor scored nine of the next 13 points, to narrow the lead to 18-15.

A quick 4-1 New Lisbon run, gave the Rockets a 22-16 cushion, and they held on for the 25-21 win.

The Rockets were able to keep the momentum going, and finished off the match winning games three and four, 25-17 and 26-24 respectively.

Haley Woggon led the Rocket attack with 15 kills. Jill Niles added 11 kills, and Paige Neitzel finished with 16 assists.

New Lisbon will finish off their regular season next week at Hillsboro on Tuesday and at Royall on Thursday.

Royall and Hillsboro are tied for first place in the SBC, a game in front of the Rockets.
