The United Methodist Church at 116 W. Bridge St. was demolished Oct. 30 to make way for an extended parking lot for the Kwik Trip next door. The development was unanimously approved by the New Lisbon City Council on Aug. 21. New Lisbon Mayor Lloyd Chase previously commented on the need for more available parking at the Kwik Trip. There have been some criticisms about potential negative effects to property values and intrusive lighting around the Kwik Trip, but safety concerns around parking and pedestrians were the primary focus of the city council’s decision. The church has moved to a new location, and successfully removed and transported the 2,000-pound bell, dated 1892, from the bell tower to its new home.
