In November, four members of the University of Wisconsin-Platteville dairy judging team traveled to Louisville, Ky., to the North American Livestock Exposition Dairy Judging Contest. Participants from UW-Platteville included Garrett Madland, a senior from Lyndon Station majoring in animal science; Cassy Krull, a junior from Lake Mills majoring in agricultural business; Brooks Hendrickson, a sophomore from Belleville majoring in animal science; and Kami Schuler, a senior from Platteville majoring in animal science. A total of 19 teams with 76 contestants from throughout the United States were in attendance.

The team performed well at the contest with individuals ranking in the top tier of participants in many of the classes. In the Ayrshire, Guernsey and Jersey breeds, the team placed fifth. The team was seventh overall in their presentation of oral reasons, and ranked fifth overall at the contest.

“The team did an outstanding job,” said Cory Weigel, Pioneer Farm dairy enterprise manager and dairy judging team coach.
