The state of Wisconsin recognized Necedah resident, writer and outdoorsman Mark Walters on Monday for his work in getting kids into the outdoors.

The recognition didn’t come without a little good-natured ribbing along the way.

“Do you really work? From what I read it sounds like you’re just having a hell of a good time,” state Rep. Ed Brooks said as he presented Walters a commendation from the Wisconsin Assembly for the success of Kids and Mentors Outdoors — the nonprofit Walters founded.

And while Walters won’t deny having fun on the job, the success of KAMO really did take work — his own and that of many volunteers.
