Phyllis L. Austin, 83, of Mauston, died Monday, Sept. 25, 2017, at Mile Bluff Medical Center in Mauston.
Phyllis was born Oct. 17, 1933, in Salina, Kansas, to Phillip and Maybelle Betts. She married Ralph D. Austin, July 27, 1952, in Salina, Kansas. The couple lived in Minnesota, North Dakota and Illinois as Ralph worked for J.C. Penny Co. In 1985, the couple moved to Mauston where they owned and operated Highway Q Liquor and Sporting Goods.
Phyllis enjoyed crocheting, knitting, and making her famous bag of bags.
She is survived by her husband, Ralph Austin of Mauston; sons, David (Deb) Austin of Mauston and James Austin of Mauston; grandchildren, Michael (Carissa) Austin of Mauston, Phillip Austin, and Stephanie Nightingale of Mauston; great-grandchildren, Landen Austin of Mauston and Harper Austin of Mauston; brother, Terry (Jo) Betts of Tracy, California; nieces; nephews; other relatives; and friends.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, Phillip and Maybelle; and brothers, Jim and Don Betts.
Per her request, no services are planned. Memorials may be directed in Phyllis’s memory to Mauston Food Pantry.
