Robert Vern Schoonover, 86, of Beloit, Wis., went home to become one with his maker after a courageous battle with cancer. Bob passed away March 15, 2010, in his home like he wanted. Bob was born June 25, 1923, in New Lisbon, the son of Guy and Myrtle Mae (Richardson) Schoonover.

He was united in marriage to Anna May Parsons Oct. 27, 1953. Anna preceded him in death Oct. 18, 2003. Bob was a pioneer of the salvage business and later went on to own and operate Schoonover Auto Salvage in Beloit. Bob retired in 2005.

Survivors include loving companion, Charlene Ann Galster of Beloit; son, Robert F. Schoonover of Burlington; daughter, Sparlene (Sue) Schoonover of Burlington; daughter-in-law, Crystal Schoonover; stepson, Donald (Carol) Haskins of South Beloit, Ill.; grandchildren, Melissa, Trisha, and Devin (Christina Nyles); step-grandchildren, Pat (Josie) Haskins, Greg (Julie) Haskins and Alanna Haskins; step-great-grandchildren, Seth Haskins, and Brenden Haskins; five great-grandchildren; special sisters, Lucille Ellis of Beloit, Maxine (Kenneth) Miller of Pleasant Prairie, Genevieve Stretsbury of Waunakee, and Charlotte (Richard) Delaney of Bristol; brother, Ernest (Elizabeth) Schoonover of Adams; brother-in-law, Robert Schrieber of Beloit; several nieces and nephews; special nephews, Robert (Patricia) Ellis of Rockton, Ill. and Carl (Elsje) Chase of Camp Douglas; special neighbors; and friends, Terry and Evelyn Herbst and family.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents; son, Robby V.; daughters, Leeah E. and Mary C. Galster; stepson, Guy Haskins; sisters, Arlene Schoonover, Helen Schrieber and Delia Carr; brother, Maynard Schoonover; brothers-in-law, Thomas Ellis, Laverne Chase, Ted Teahan, and Duwaine Stretsbury.

A private service will be held at New Lisbon City Cemetery. The Hare Funeral Home in New Lisbon is assisting the family the services.
