Erica Dynes will be the new sports and news reporter for the Juneau County-Star Times.
“I am very excited about the opportunity to work with the Star-Times, covering a wide variety of sports for many excellent schools,” she said.
Dynes is a recent graduate of Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa. She was a part of Wartburg’s track and field team finishing her career as a four-time All-American sprinter for the Knights. She was also a part of the 2014 Women’s Division III Outdoor Track and Field National Championship Team.
“We are happy Erica is bringing her experience as an athlete and enthusiasm for sports to our newspaper,” said Star-Times Editor Jason Cuevas.
In addition, during her senior year of college, she served on the student newspaper as Assistant Sports Editor. She received two awards at the Associated Collegiate Press Best of the Midwest Regional Journalism Awards Convention for 4th Place Best Editorial/Commentary and 3rd Place Best News Photo.
“I dedicate myself in journalism the same way I do as when I was a student-athlete,” Dynes said. “To be able to relate to other student-athletes and understand what they are going through is what I believe is one of my strongest assets as a sports journalist.”
Originally, Dynes grew up on a farm in Kewanee, Illinois. She also participated in sports in high school where she was a state champion in the 100 meter dash.
Besides a love for participating, watching and learning about sports, she also has a love for reading, writing, photography and watching movies.
