Black River Falls 101, Mauston Golden Eagles 98

Despite a barrage of 3-pointers, the Golden Eagles (4-5) came up short in a wild game against the Tigers (5-4) Friday, Dec. 22 at the Black River Falls Field House.

Junior point guard Joe Bauer dropped a game-high 36 points and Mauston hit 14 3-pointers on the night, but it still wasn’t enough to top Black River Falls in a high-scoring affair that saw the two teams combine for nearly 200 points. Sophomore guard Cade Hall and junior shooting guard Kyran Fitzgerald scored 20 and 13 points, respectively, as well for the Golden Eagles.

For the Tigers, senior guard Ethan Anderson led the way with 30 points, sophomore guard Elliot Bird scored 24 points on 7 of 8 shooting overall and 5 of 6 shooting from 3-point range, senior forward Bryce Seiber finished with 16 points and senior forward Jacob Woods added 15 points. Free-throw shooting was pivotal in determining the final result: Black River Falls went 27 for 34 from the line while Mauston went just 11 for 21.

The Golden Eagles will look to snap their four-game skid when they hit the road to face the Viroqua Blackhawks (0-8) Tuesday, Jan. 2 at 7:30 p.m.

Bangor Cardinals 74, Wonewoc-Center Wolves 38

A huge first half was more than enough to allow the Cardinals (4-0 overall, 3-0 Scenic Bluffs) to roll past Wonewoc-Center (4-3, 1-2) Thursday, Dec. 21 at Bangor High School.

For Bangor, senior guard Drew Johnson scored a game-high 13 points, junior guard Jaymeson Freit added 12 points, senior forward Cade Amborn recorded eight points and 10 rebounds and senior guard Luke Reader finished with seven points, six rebounds and five assists. Senior guard Joey Krueger had nine points, seven rebounds and three steals and junior small forward Kory Helm added nine points and three rebounds for the Wolves.

Wonewoc-Center will play on the road against the Fennimore Golden Eagles (6-1) Thursday, Dec. 28 at 4:00 p.m.

Hillsboro Tigers 76, New Lisbon Rockets 58

After trailing by one at halftime, Hillsboro (5-4 overall, 2-1 Scenic Bluffs) outscored the Rockets (2-5, 0-3) 47-28 in the second half on its way to an 18-point victory Thursday, Dec. 21 at New Lisbon High School.

Junior guard Cody Haschke led the way for New Lisbon with 26 points and junior guard Jared Dvorak added 13 points in the Rockets’ fifth straight loss. New Lisbon will participate in the Cassville Holiday Tournament Thursday, Dec. 28, which will also feature the Cassville Comets (2-4), the Ithaca Bulldogs (3-5) and the Coulee Christian Eagles (4-6).

Lakeside Lutheran Warriors 66, Mauston Golden Eagles 58

The Golden Eagles dropped their third straight game in an eight-point loss to Lakeside Lutheran (7-0) Tuesday, Dec. 19 at Mauston High School.

Junior guard Trevor Gallagher scored a game-high 17 points to lead the way for Mauston. Sophomore guard Cade Hall and junior point guard Joe Bauer each scored 10 points as well. For the Warriors, junior guard Will DeNoyer scored 16 points, junior center Jack Monis added 13 points, junior guard Caleb Kuepers finished with 12 points and junior center Cameron Paske chipped in 11 points.
