With the regular season winding down and the postseason fast approaching, the WIAA released brackets for the 2018 girls basketball playoffs Sunday, Feb. 11.
Mauston (5-15) is seeded 11th in the Division 3 Osseo-Fairchild sectional, where the Golden Eagles will hit the road to take on the sixth-seeded Stratford Tigers (12-8) in the regional quarterfinals Tuesday, Feb. 20 at 7:00 p.m. The winner will move on to face No. 3 seed Wautoma (15-5) in the regional semifinals Friday, Feb. 23 at 7:00 p.m.
The Necedah Cardinals (10-10) earned the No. 9 seed in the Division 4 Richland Center sectional and will square off against the eighth-seeded Lancaster Flying Arrows (7-12) in the regional quarterfinals Tuesday, Feb. 20 at 7:00 p.m. at Lancaster High School. The winner of the Necedah-Lancaster game will then face the undefeated La Crosse Aquinas Blugolds (20-0), the top-ranked Division 4 team in the state, in a regional semifinal matchup Friday, Feb. 23 at 7:00 p.m.
Royall, New Lisbon and Wonewoc-Center will all compete in the Division 5 West Salem sectional.
The Panthers (7-12) are seeded ninth and will meet the No. 8-seeded Plum City/Elmwood Raiders (8-13) Tuesday, Feb. 20 at 7:00 p.m. at Elmwood High School in the regional quarterfinals. The winner advances to the regional semifinals, where they will face either the top-seeded Bangor Cardinals (17-3) or the 16th-seeded Granton Bulldogs (1-19) Friday, Feb. 23 at 7:00 p.m.
The Rockets (7-13), the No. 10 seed in the sectional, are slated to go up against the seventh-seeded Cashton Eagles (8-12) on the road Tuesday, Feb. 20 at 7:00 p.m. in their regional quarterfinal matchup. The Wolves (1-18) are seeded 15th and will square off with the second-seeded Hillsboro Tigers (14-6) in the regional quarterfinals Tuesday, Feb. 20 at 7:00 p.m. at Hillsboro High School. The winner of those two games will meet in the regional semifinals Friday, Feb. 23 at 7:00 p.m.
Regional finals will take place Saturday, Feb. 24, sectional semifinals are scheduled for Thursday, March 1 and sectional finals are slated for Saturday, March 3.
