HORICON — At the 2013 Spring Concert music director Donn Gasner announced the department’s annual award winners. Awards are based on points accumulated through the year, student vote and director vote.
n Outstanding freshman: Kelsey Flaskrud
n Outstanding sophomore: Megan Tillema
n Most improved player freshman/sophomore: Jenna Ziorgen
n Outstanding junior: Brooke Gulke
n Most improved player junior/senior: Dustin Hoefs
The John Philip Sousa Award is awarded to a senior “In recognition of outstanding achievement and interest in instrumental music, for singular merit in loyalty and cooperation, and for displaying those high qualities of conduct that school instrumental music requires.” The recipient of that award this year was Brooke Bauer.
All seniors in the band program were recognized as well as seniors who lettered in band all four years of high school. Those four-year letter winners being recognized were Brooke Bauer, Mary Condon, Olivia Gasner, Amber Ziorgen, Callie Watry, Kathy Rettmann and Alissa Roggenbauer
Choir members receiving awards were — most improved singer Kallista McDaniels.
Senior pins were awarded to Larissa Antonioni, Jessica Beyersdorf, Kimberly Fleming, Haley Hammond, Janessa Handrow, Brittany Kreger, Sarah Tuttle, Cody Varela and Haley West.
The National School Choral Award is the highest honor for high school choral performers. It recognizes the dedication and musical achievement of the top choral student. That honor this year went to Kimberly Fleming.
