JUNEAU – It may not feel like it, but warmer spring weather is coming, and with it pedestrians merging with vehicle traffic at city intersections and on roadways without sidewalks.

Because of working schedules, some walkers/runners will be active at pre-dawn and after sunset. There are bright reflective outer garments on sale for around $10 and it is suggested that walkers/runners wear the outer garments at all times and run or walk single-file facing oncoming traffic.

The 2012 Wisconsin preliminary report recorded 1,267 rural and urban crashes involving pedestrians, resulting in over 1,150 injuries and 44 fatalities. Dodge County had two pedestrian fatalities last year, one city, age 5, and one rural, age 33.

Don’t assume that the vehicle driver sees you.
