A Stoughton woman who drove on the wrong side of Highway 12 near Baraboo told police she was drunk and didn't know what highway she was on.

Monica Johnson, 21, was taken to the Sauk County Jail for drunken driving, having open intoxicants in a motor vehicle and driving on the wrong side of a divided highway, the Sheriff's Office said.

The incident was reported at about 7 a.m. Saturday when a dozen callers to 911 said a vehicle was going north in the southbound lanes of Highway 12, near Old Bluff Trail.

"The vehicle continued in the wrong lanes for about six miles until the driver pulled off onto Ski Hi Road," said Sheriff Chip Meister.

Several witnesses said they had to take evasive action to avoid a head-on crash with Johnson's vehicle.
