Melvin Leroy Bratland, 79, of Baraboo, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2017, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Madison.
He was born in Edgerton on March 2, 1938, to the union of Melvin B. and Florence H. Bratland.
Melvin retired as a welder from Neco Hammond and Palmer Manufacturing. He also retired from dairy farming.
His hobbies were, baseball, softball, bowling — both league and recreational — fishing and stock car racing. Melvin also enjoyed watching the Green Bay Packers and Wisconsin Badgers football, Milwaukee Brewers baseball and NASCAR. Melvin was an avid horseman and participated in all types of timed events in horse shows.
Melvin is survived by his ex-wife and best friend Mary Bratland; six children, Arnold Bratland of Austin, Texas, Kandice Knospe of Springville, Iowa, Neal (Kim) Schmidt of Eatonton, Georgia, William Schmidt of Portage, LeRoy Bratland of Baraboo, Eric (Glenda) Bratland of Packwaukee; one brother Henry (Rita) Bratland of Edgerton; 12 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Melvin B. Bratland; mother, Florence H. Bratland; and one brother, Willard Bratland.
Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 13, 2017, at Redlin Funeral Home in Baraboo, with George Burgess officiating.
