Jacob Klamer, 94, of Lewis, Colorado, formerly a long-time resident on Lake Wisconsin in Lodi, passed away Monday, Oct. 23, 2017, at his home surrounded by family.

He was born Oct. 18, 1923, in Chicago, Illinois, the son of the late Jacob Klamer Sr. and Antie (Kopel) Klamer.

Jacob was a retired carpenter, had a kind heart, and was always willing to lend a hand. His door was always open to everyone, and he loved sharing “his” lake with family and friends. He was a humble man and touched many lives in a positive way. He was married to Edith Herchenbach on Sept. 18, 1945; and they walked together for 67 years, holding hands until she died on March 26, 2012. After Edith passed away, Jacob’s hand felt empty and he missed his wife each and every day. Now, they are together again.

Jacob was honorably discharged from the Army on Nov. 30, 1945, and received the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, and the World War II Victory Medal.

Jacob is survived by his children, James (Janet) Klamer of Lodi, Kathryn Hennek of Lewis, Colorado, Donald Klamer of Lodi, and Christine Klamer of Milwaukee; his beloved grandchildren, Reed Hadley, Robin (Peter) Christiansen, Chad (Heather) Klamer, David (Holly) Klamer, Amy Klamer, Mark Hennek, Daniel (Nicole) Hennek, Jay (Marissa) Klamer, Melissa Klamer, Sarah Klamer, and Christopher Klamer; and his cherished great-grandchildren Rikki Flint, Jake (Guadalupe Purple) Flint, Drew Christiansen, Hailey Christiansen, George Klamer, Roy Klamer, David Klamer, Brayden Klamer, Ellie Hennek, Kaine Pellett and Liam Klamer.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Edith (Herchenbach) Klamer; his son David Klamer; and his grandson Nicholas Klamer.

Visitation will be held from 10-11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 4, 2017, at Hooverson Funeral Home in Sauk City, followed by a graveside service with military honors at the Garden Bluff Cemetery in the Town of West Point.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that a donation be made in Jacob’s name to Hospice of Montezuma, 512 N. Broadway, Cortez, CO 81321.
