The Horicon School District is asking for money with costs not to exceed $22.92 million for adding on of the middle school to the high school and costs not to exceed $3.6 million to fix and improve the high school.
If the referendums pass, the total will not exceed $26.5 million. Now the only talk we hear is how we need to add the middle school to the high school because of deterioration. Nowhere in any of the information mailed out or in the papers does it state what it would cost just to fix and improve the middle school.
I would like to know the numbers to see which is cheaper. Two years ago, the school was in talks with Mayville about consolidation but did not want to do it because of $30 million, but now the district needs almost $30 million to fix the school?
Maybe the school district should be handing out all the numbers before asking for so much money and expect the citizens to just hand it over. Show us where the savings will be from building new compared to fixing what needs fixing.
