BASEBALL ROUND-UP: Neu keeps Pardeeville at bay

Green Lake beats Montello, Rio falls to Williams Bay

Junior pitcher Austin Neu baffled the Pardeeville bats, holding to Bulldogs to just two runs on five hits in a 7-2 Southern Trailways Conference victory in Pardeeville on Thursday night at Chandler Park.

"He pitched a good game. We were three-up and down in the seventh inning, in the fifth inning, in the fourth inning and the third inning," said Pardeeville head coach Bill Hebl. "We had one base runner in the second inning and one in the first inning. No walks. He really had the game under control the entire game."

Neu also helped his own cause, leading a 13-hit attack for Hustisford-Dodgeland by going 4-for-4 and connecting for two of his team's six doubles in the game. Mark Wolfgram also had a hot bat, going 2-for-3 with a double and a home run.

The game actually got off to a good start for the Bulldogs and pitcher Tanner Westbury, who got out of bases-loaded jam with no outs in the first inning. Westbury got out of the early trouble with a pair of strikeouts and a failed squeeze bunt by Hustisford-Dodgeland.

Pardeeville scored it's two runs in the sixth inning, when it collected three of its five hits in the game. Singles by Eric Sommers and Zach Weihert set the table for a RBI single from Jesse Kath. Pat Banks then followed with a sacrifice fly to make it 7-2.

Pardeeville falls to 5-3 in the Southern Trailways Conference, with all five of its wins coming against teams in the bottom half of the standings.

"We win the games we are supposed to win, but we can get up to that next tier," Hebl said. "I thought maybe we would be ready, because we lost a 2-1 game (at Hustisford-Dodgeland earlier in the season)."
