BASEBALL: Weihert deals Pardeeville a victory
Zach Weihert has been getting the job done at the plate all season long, but on Friday, he also shined on the mound for the Bulldogs. The Pardeeville freshman struck out 10 and held Rio to just one unearned run over six innings of work to lead the Bulldogs to a 9-1 victory over host Rio.
"Outstanding. In command of his curve ball. Probably one of the better pitching performances by our team this year," said Pardeeville head coach Bill Hebl of Weihert after the game. "He was ahead most of the time and it makes a difference, because then you can play games."
Rio head coach Carey Swanson agreed with Hebl's assessment of Weihert's work.
"Their pitcher just threw a real nice game," Swanson said. "He had us off balance all night."
Pardeeville took control of the game with three runs in the second and then put the game out of reach with four runs in seventh. The big hit in the seventh inning was a 3-run double by Eric Sommers.
Rio was led by Brandon Parpart, who was 2-for-3 with a double at the plate.
