Daniel “Dan” J. Sonnenberg, 57, of Oxford, passed away Saturday, Nov. 18, 2017.
Daniel was born Aug. 19, 1960, in Reedsburg, the son of Richard and Beverly (Rice) Sonnenberg. He graduated from Mazomanie High School in 1978, and married Doreen Jones on Oct. 1, 1982, at McFarlane Road Bible Church in Portage. Dan worked as an electrician for Electric Construction of Madison.
Dan was an active member of Prairie Enthusiasts and the National Butterfly Association. Many happy hours were spent counting butterflies, taking beautiful photographs of rare species to share with anyone and everyone. He loved being outdoors — working hard, hunting and fishing with friends, and observing every detail nature had to offer.
He is survived by his wife, Doreen Sonnenberg of the town of Oxford; children, Derrick Sonnenberg of Madison and Dana Sonnenberg of St. Paul, Minnesota; parents, Richard and Beverly Sonnenberg of Westfield; brothers, Mark (Patricia) Sonnenberg of Mazomanie, Jeff (Trina) Sonnenberg of Nucla, Colorado; and many other relatives and dear friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 27, at Grace Bible Church, 2939 County Highway CX, Portage, with the Rev. Jeremy Edmondson and Dr. Steven Corbett officiating. Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 26, at the church, and from 10 a.m. until the time of service Monday, Nov. 27.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Southern Wisconsin Butterfly Association (SWBA).
