George R. Freeman, 44, Rio

George R. Freeman, 44, passed away at his home in Rio, after a long battle with cancer, on Dec. 31, 2017.

George was born in Marriam, Kansas, on Oct. 15, 1973, to Lloyd R. and T. Irene Freeman. George grew up and graduated from high school in Lawrence, Kansas. He worked as a drywall hanger for most of his life. He tried the Alaskan fishing boat for a short period in the early 1990s, and last year worked at O’Reilly’s in Columbus.

George married Melanie “Hunny Bee” Hartley on April 29, 2006. They have two boys, Dominick J. and Quentin R.

Survivors include his wife, Melanie; sons, Dominick and Quentin; mother, Irene; sister, Dorothy (Jay) Heller; nephews, Timothy (Chrissy) and George “Trey”; four grandnieces, Rylie, Jayda, Tessa and Macie; his father- and mother-in-law, Joe and Dolly Hartley; brother-in-law, Tim (Meg); nephew and niece, Sam and Alli; numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father, Lloyd; grandparents, Ebb and Elizabeth Freeman, and Raymond and Dorothy Templin; and a nephew, Anthony “AJ” Heller.

Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 6, at Grasse Funeral Home, 401 Angel Way, Rio, with the Rev. Mark Brandel presiding. Inurnment will be at Bonnet Prairie Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.
