There is only one way for an American to behave when the U.S. flag is presented and/or when the National Anthem is played: “No disrespect should be shown to the flag of the United States of America. … During the ceremony of hoisting or lowering the flag or when the flag is passing in a parade or in review, those present in uniform should render the military salute. Members of the Armed Forces and veterans who are present but not in uniform may render the military salute. All other persons present should face the flag and stand at attention with their right hand over the heart, or if applicable, remove their headdress with their right hand and hold it at the left shoulder, the hand being over the heart. Citizens of other countries should stand at attention …” (legion.org/flag/code).

If you would like to witness the sharing and educating of why we respect the U.S. flag and honor our veterans, please contact your local school and attend their Veterans Day ceremony, which is open to the public.

God bless our veterans and God bless the United States of America.
