The Portage girls swimming team finished in fifth place out eight teams at the Badger North Conference Swimming Meet in Baraboo on Friday night.

The Warriors were led by sophomore Brooklyn Miller, who finished second in the 200-yard freestyle in a time of 2 minutes, .30 seconds. That time put her just .41 seconds behind Waunakee’s Megan Pierce, who won the event in 1:59.89.

Miller also finished third in the 100 backstroke in a time of 1:02.13. Winning that event was Wauankee’s Ella Graf in 58.79. Portage put a pair of swimmers in the top seven of the backstroke, as junior Rakelle Schultz was seventh in 1:04.38. Schultz was also seventh in 50 freestyle, finishing in 26.72.

In the 100 breaststroke, Portage sophomore Leigha Andraschko was fourth. She finished in 1:14.88. Joining Andraschko in the top 10 for the Warriors was senior Allison Veglahn, who was 10th in 1:17.74.

Portage finished sixth in two relays. In the first event of the night, the team of Miller, Andraschko, Schultz and Veglahn finished sixth in the 200 medley relay in a time of 1:59.89. Then in the final event, the foursome of Schultz, Madison Routson, Veglahn and Miller finished sixth in the 400 freestyle relay in 3:55.99.

Waunakee won the meet with 486.5 points, while host Baraboo finished second with 470 points.

Lodi/Wisconsin Heights finished eighth with 107 points. The top finish for Lodi/Wisconsin Heights came in the 200 freestyle relay, where the team of Kara Loy, Alana Gilles, Riley Petrick and Brooke Presny finished sixth in 1:47.35.
