The Portage wrestling team finished 20th in Division 1 at the Bi-State Classic in La Crosse on Friday and Saturday.
Leading the Warriors as the lone Portage wrestler to place was Jessie Tijerina, who ended up 11th at 126 pounds.
Tijerina was 4-3 at the two-day tournament, moving to 15-4 on the season. Tijerina reached the quarterfinals after opening with three straight wins, including a 7-3 victory over Jeffrey Robinson of Stillwater, Minnesota. Tijerina lost a 5-2 decision in the quarterfinals, and then lost two straight consolation matches before a 7-4 win over Prairie du Chien’s Bradyn Saint in the 11th-place match.
Dylan Golke won three matches for Portage, including two by pin, but ended up having his run end when he was pinned by Jonathan Albrecht of Athens in the consolation round.
After a first-round bye, Nathan Poches won a pair of matches at 132 pounds for the Warriors. Dylan Casey (145) and Isiah Miller (285) were also multi-match winners for Portage at the meet.
In Division 2, Lodi finished in fifth place with 159.5 points. Luxemburg-Casco won the Division 2 title with 263 pounds.
Jacob Heyroth led the way for the Blue Devils, finishing third at 182 pounds. Heyroth landed in the semifinals after pinning Lancaster’s Troy Klein in 1:49 in their quarterfinal match, but had his title hopes end when Brady Peat of Iowa-Grant/Highland beat him 10-8 in the semis. Heyroth bounced back with a win in the consolation semifinals and then a 3-1 victory in the third-place match.
Garrett Moll finished fourth at 120 pounds for Lodi. Moll’s win in sudden victory overtime over Belmont/Platteville in the quarterfinals sent him into the semis, where he ended up losing to Stillwater’s Reid Ballantyne. Moll’s major decision in the consolation semifinals put him into the third-place match, which he lost in overtime to Sparta’s Jon Bailey.
Lodi’s Gabe Mabin finished seventh at 285 pounds, while Colton Nicolay (132) and Max Barreau (170) both finished 10th in La Crosse.
