A special school board meeting of the electors has been set for those living within Reedsburg School District to vote for the school board to purchase property for Reedsburg’s new elementary school and transportation facility.
At a special school board meeting Nov. 29, Reedsburg’s School Board unanimously approved to set the special school board meeting for the electors at 7 p.m. Dec. 18. The regular meeting will follow after the special meeting. To accommodate for the amount of electors, the meeting will be held at Webb Middle School.
Based on state law, electors-any resident within the school district of Reedsburg must authorize the school district to acquire land, real estate, structures and facilities necessary for school district purposes.
“It can’t be purchased until the public authorizes us to do so,” said Tom Benson, district administrator.
Benson said the land is 80 acres of farmland outside of the city of Reedsburg, located on the southwest corner of the intersection of Reedsburg Road and Golf Course Road. Benson said the land is a “nice solid location for the population that’s going to be served in that building.”
“The property lays out nicely, there’s plenty of acreage there for our immediate needs and I think for our potential to meet our needs in the future,” Benson said.
Additional information, like the cost of the land, will be shared at the Dec. 18 meeting.
“We made an offer on that property, the offer has been accepted, we’re in agreement of all the terms all of which will be shared at this meeting on the 18th,” Benson said.
Benson said he is looking forward to sharing the information and the opportunity with the public. The design and layout of both buildings have not been determined.
“That process is going to take many, many, many weeks,” Benson said. “We’ve begun that process, but we’re far from done designing the building.”
