Reedsburg Area Medical Center tried something new for its Annual Kids Fit and Safe Day May 10.
The hospital made arrangements with the School District of Reedsburg to transport fourth and fifth grade students to Nishan Park, rather than have a day where families bring their children to the event like in the past, said Volunteer and Community Relations Coordinator Jodie Molitor.
Students learned at each station about how to stay healthy and safe from hand washing, car safety, internet safety, hunting safety and water safety.
Pineview Elementary School Fifth Grade Teachers Jen Neumann and Tom Hora said the event was a fun experience for the students to learn about how to stay safe and keep active, especially with summer break approaching.
“A lot of the presenters had cool pictures that got the kids engaged or games the kids could play to learn different information,” Neumann said. “They took not so exciting information and made it exciting for the kids.”
Molitor said the hospital hopes to host the event with the school district again and to expand the event.
“Another idea in the future is to expand an additional day to our preschoolers in addition to their families also,” Molitor said.
