Ice grips Reedsburg

A Peterson Sanitation dump truck driven by Jeremy Bergeron skidded backward down a hill into an electrical pole about a half mile south of highway 154 on Golf Course Road. "Basically this happened because Reedsburg Township didn't take care of the roads," Bergeron said. He added that the sand on the road was not enough for a 49,000 pound vehicle to climb a steep hill, and that salt would have led to a safe passage. After a farmer failed to get the truck out late Tuesday morning, two wreckers were called to assist in removing the dump truck from the ditch. The only thing keeping the dump truck upright was a wire from an electric pole. "Our guidewire is pretty much what's holding the truck up," an Alliant Energy Line Technician said. After careful planning, the wreckers were able to get the dump out in about an hour.
