Sylvia Bernice Jacobson, 92, Published Oct. 4, 2008

Sylvia Bernice Jacobson, 92 of Reedsburg, died Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2008, at the Reedsburg Area Medical Center. She was born on July 12, 1916, in Cherry Grove Township, Goodhue County, Minn., to Adolph Julius and Lillian Estelle (Babcock) Peterson. She was baptized into Christ on Aug. 27, 1916, and confirmed on Oct. 4, 1931, at Hegre Lutheran Church of Skyberg, Minn., by Rev. Torgeny Kleven. She was married on Sept. 25, 1935, to Olaf Harvey Lee Jacobson at the Lutheran parsonage in Wanamingo, Minn. Sylvia and Harvey lived briefly in Kenyon, Dodge Center and Goodhue, Minn., before moving to Fairmont, Minn., where Harvey was the manager and then owner of the Jacobson's Farmers Supply that sold feeds, seeds and fertilizers. In 1958 they moved to Faribault, Minn., where Sylvia lived until 2003 when she moved to Reedsburg to be near her son and daughter-in-law.She was a devoted wife and stay-at-home mother for her two sons.

Sylvia was a member of Grace Lutheran Church of Fairmont and later a member of First English Lutheran Church of Faribault. She was active in the women's organizations and Bible study groups at both churches. At First English Lutheran she was responsible for sending out Sunshine sympathy, get-well and anniversary cards to members. From 1984 to 2001 she sent out 3,139 cards.

She is survived by one son, M. L. (Karen) Jacobson of LaValle; three grandchildren, Beth (Bryan) Norris of Little Canada, Minn., Martin (Marin) Jacobson of West Branch, Iowa, Amy (Russell) Chrischilles of Storm Lake, Iowa; six great-grandchildren, Greta and Kari Norris of Little Canada, Kari and Kristofer Jacob of West Branch, Roman and Amber Chrischilles of Storm Lake; two sisters, Edith Ihle and Arlette Olness, both of Kenyon, Minn., and many nieces and nephews.

Sylvia was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harvey on July 12, 1961; a son, Dennis on March 31, 1949; three brothers, James Stanley, Elton and Harold; two sisters; an infant and Geneva Luella Rumpho.

Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 20, 2008, at First English Lutheran Church in Faribault, Minn., with Pastor Richard L. Jorgensen officiating. Visitation will precede the services beginning at 9 a.m. Graveside services for friends and family will be held at the Lakeside Cemetery in Fairmont, Minn., at 2:30 p.m. on the same day. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First English Lutheran Church in Faribault or Grace Lutheran Church in Fairmont.

The Farber Funeral Home in Reedsburg is assisting the family with the arrangements.
