George Fox Browne, 83, Published June 27, 2009
George Fox Browne, 83, passed away peacefully accompanied by his family and a beautiful sunset in his home on June 13, 2009, after a courageous battle with mesothelioma. He was born Feb. 21, 1926, in Geneva, Ill. and was a resident of St. Charles and Wheaton, Ill. He also lived in Denver, Colo. from 1954 to 1964. George served honorably in the Navy from 1943 to 1953 during WWII on the U.S.S. Chowonoch, and during the Korean War. He attended college at Goodman Theatre in Chicago and Carroll University in Wisconsin. George worked for his father-in-law at Allender Motors in Ironwood, Mich. during the 1950s and then in Denver, Colo. for the Ford Motor Co., where he showed a new brand of car called the Edsel. George then had a long career as a master carpenter and cabinetmaker, but his passion in life was his jazz music career as a bass player.
Gardening, wine making, fishing, golf and a good poker game with his buddies made his life full. He always rooted for his favorite teams — the Bulls, Bears and Cubs. As of late, his long walks in Webb Park with his faithful dog Chloe during beautiful days and sunsets made his life whole and complete.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Robert and mother, Ruth.
Surviving are four children, Roberta Higgins of Milwaukee, Michael of East Troy, Richard (Linda) of West Dundee, Ill. and Kristine of East Troy; many loving grandchildren; three great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; an older brother, Edward (Mary Lou) of Fountain Hills, Ariz.; former wife and mother of his children, Patricia Adriansen of East Troy; and former wife and friend, Betty Browne of Winfield, Ill.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on July 18 at the Lake Street Memorial Cemetery in Elgin, Ill., and at 1 p.m. with a "Life Celebration for George" at the home of Richard, 216 N. 5th Street, West Dundee, Ill. All are welcome. Visit www.farberfuneralhome.com for moreinformation.
In lieu of flowers, contributions to the G. F. Browne Memorial Garden can be made to "The Sauk County Hospice House" in Baraboo.
